The Altai region of Western Mongolia is the perfect destination for those with a true sense of adventure. This trip will include hiking, off-road driving and horser riding. You will trek in the majestic Hasagt Hairhan Mountains, otherwise known as Bogd or Hairhan, another name for the holy mountains in Mongolia.
Beautiful, curative, natural springs and the meditation caves of Buddhist monks make the area very sacred for local people. The area has been protected since 1965 in order to conserve its contrasting natural landscapes of gobi desert, alpine meadow and tundra which exist in a single mountain and also to protect its rare endangered species of ibex, wild horned sheep, snow leopard and maral deer. On the trek you will reach one of the largest, pyramid shaped sand dunes in the country, Mongol Els, which emits a trilling sound. It is known as singing sand dunes in Mongolia.
Journey to Lake Ereen will be one of the highlights in addition to the chance to interact with local nomadic families and learn about their unique culture, which has been preserved down the ages. Ancient burial sites and ‘stone men,’ which you will see, bear witness to the importance of this area for local people today.
